Vanderlin Dr and Lee Point Rd intersection
A planning study to look at future options to upgrade Vanderlin Drive and Lee Point Road intersection is currently underway.
Vanderlin Drive is classified as a primary arterial road.
This means it is a strategic link in the road network, with the primary function of moving traffic.
A recent review of the roundabout at Vanderlin and Lee Point Road has identified that it has reached its capacity.
This is likely due to increasing traffic demand as a result of new developments in nearby suburbs.
Long queues have been observed for all approaches at the roundabout during peak hours.
The review recommended that the intersection be upgraded.
The planning study awarded to SMEC Australia Pty Ltd will consider how to best do this.
The objectives of the study are to:
- improve capacity and traffic flow along the key urban route
- improve safety for road users including pedestrians and cyclists
- improve the operational capacity of the intersection
- consider landscaping requirements
- consider street lighting, drainage, and other road design features.
This project is planning for future traffic growth in Darwin.
To ensure as many people can be involved and consulted, the project will involve two stages of consultation with the local community.
Landscaping will be considered during options development to retain aesthetics where possible.
Consultation is open until 18 December 2020.
