Territory-wide audit of septic tank type sewerage systems at all NT Government-owned and managed locations

The Northern Territory Government is committed to providing safe public housing and other infrastructure throughout the Territory. To ensure septic tank type sewerage systems are in a safe condition, on-site audits of these systems will commence from July 2023 and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

The audit includes but is not limited to, public housing, government employee housing, schools, police stations, health clinics, roadside stops, boat ramps and aerodromes.

The audit will be conducted across the Northern Territory in urban, regional and remote areas by the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics.

The audit will examine the condition of septic tank systems, address any potential safety matters and identify recommendations for further increasing safety in and around septic tank systems.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is working closely with Territory Families, Housing and Communities to ensure remote public housing contractors and tenants are aware of the audit, educated on septic tank safety and know how to report concerns.
