Transit Officer tip out powers

Published

Transit Officers have been provided with more powers to combat anti-social behaviour on public transport.

Transit Officers now have powers to search for, seize and tip out alcohol where they suspect on reasonable grounds that a person has consumed alcohol in a prohibited public place, which includes the public bus network in the Greater Darwin area.

In addition to passenger safety, a safe working environment for staff and contractors is also a priority.

Transit Officers receive comprehensive training including Verbal Judo and Cultural Awareness.

Eating and drinking on public buses is prohibited, except for water in a resealable container.

Consuming alcohol on the bus network is prohibited.
