Think Twice about Asbestos!

Published

Asbestos still exists in millions of buildings and structures across Australia.

It is estimated that around 6 million tonnes of asbestos materials remain in our built environment, and that asbestos is in 1 in 3 homes.

Asbestos was used in thousands of building materials, such as fibro, cladding and corrugated roof sheets, vinyl floor tiles, adhesives, paints, electrical components, insulation, gutters, pipes, textured coatings and window putty.

At greatest risk are those who undertake asbestos removal or carry out repairs, maintenance or renovation work on buildings that were built before 1990.

Before planning any renovations, repairs or other works on buildings that may contain asbestos, ‘Think Twice about Asbestos!’.
