National Safe Boating Week is 30 September – 6 October 2024

Published

National Safe Boating Week (NSBW) is a safety initiative of the Australia and New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group (ANZSBEG).

The aim of NSBW in 2024 is to highlight the importance of wearing the correct type of lifejacket and maintaining inflatable lifejackets to ensure reliable operation and carrying a distress beacon to raise the alarm.

Everyone has a responsibility to safely operate of their boats and return passengers unharmed, to their loved ones - whether you’re on the water hunting the Million Dollar Fish or catching the sunset with family.

When boating, please remember:

  • Lifejackets - Wear, Self-Check and Service by Accredited Agent
  • If you end up in the water, you are much more likely to survive if you are wearing a lifejacket.
  • When accidents happen, there’s rarely time to put a lifejacket on
  • A lifejacket only works if you’re wearing it
  • There are many types of lifejackets available today that meet the appropriate Australian standards, find the style that works for you and wear it
  • Lifejackets must be maintained to ensure reliable operation - this includes self-inspection and servicing by accredited agents

Wear Your Lifejacket to Work Day

Debunk the myth - Show everyone how easy it is to wear a lifejacket at any time, doing anything.

Whatever you are doing on Friday 4 October 2024, wear your lifejacket.

Post a picture of yourself wearing one to social media with the hashtags #safeboating.
