Proposed safety improvements to Schwarz Crescent

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and Alice Springs Town Council are looking at how to improve safety on the Stuart Highway at Schwarz Crescent.

Schwarz Crescent is the main access from the Stuart Highway to St Philips College and Anzac Hill. Pedestrians and vehicles do not get safe gaps in traffic to cross the Stuart Highway at this location. To address this, the Department commissioned a study to improve safety at Schwarz Crescent.

Concept design

The concept design proposes realigning Schwarz Crescent. To do this, the existing Smith Street/Stuart Highway junction will become a new four-way signalised intersection.

Schwarz Crescent design concept

The new design will provide a safe and reliable crossing of the Highway for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Alice Springs Town Council supports the proposed realignment and new signalised intersection.

This is a planning study only. There are no funds for construction at this stage.
