McMillans Road, Northlakes pedestrian crossing study
The Northern Territory Government has released a proposed concept for a new pedestrian crossing on McMillians Road near Northlakes shopping centre.
The proposed two-staged signalised pedestrian crossing is pictured below and was informed by a study that included:
- two rounds of community consultation
- technical investigations.
The study showed that pedestrians often cross the road at the location of the proposed crossing, and providing a signalised crossing here will encourage and facilitate safer access for pedestrians to the shopping centre.
The proposed design aims to:
- improve road safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists by incorporating a signalised pedestrian crossings and a footpath.
- improve accessibility to and from the bus stop on McMillians Road and the Northlakes Shopping Centre.
The addition of the crossing is not expected to have a significant impact on commuter traffic in the area.
The project is likely to proceed to detailed design stage this year.
