Frances Bay Mooring Basin lock upgrade

The Territory Government will deliver a $20 million upgrade of the Frances Bay Mooring Basin lock.

The project will include a new lock, entry gates, approach walls, doors plus the mechanical and electrical systems upgrades to ensure the longer term sustainability, efficiency and safety of the facility.

The upgrades will provide an improved facility for the commercial fishing, seafood, marine maintenance and supplies and other maritime industries.

A design and construction tender is planned for release in late 2021.

Construction of the new elements may require up to an 18-month closure of the mooring basin to all vessels from construction start in the 2022 dry season, until completion in the 2023-24 financial year.

The project team will work with key stakeholders to develop strategies to maintain business capabilities and operational continuity while the mooring basin is out of service, and will work with industry representative groups and basin users to minimise as many disruptions as possible to operations.
