Planning Amendment Bill 2020 passed

The Northern Territory (NT) Government is delivering on its promise to restore integrity and confidence through reform of the planning system in the NT.

The Planning Amendment Bill 2020 was passed on 25 June 2020 to deliver a planning system that focuses on the critical role of strategic planning in guiding development that considers the long term needs of existing and future communities.

In addition to the emphasis on strategic planning, the reforms deliver a more efficient, transparent and understandable system to foster community and industry confidence.

Other significant components of the reforms that are being progressed include:

  • amended regulations
  • a new NT Planning Scheme 2020
  • enhanced online information.

Information to enhance community and industry understanding of the reforms is being developed. It will be available when the Act, the regulations and the new scheme commence.
