Tender released to reinvigorate John Stokes Square

The Northern Territory Government is delivering a major $45 million redevelopment of John Stokes Square in Nightcliff, including a new 24-hour police station.

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, in collaboration with the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development and the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services, are working to reinvigorate the existing John Stokes Square in Nightcliff.

A demolition tender has been released as part of the $3 million brought forward by the Northern Territory Government to undertake early works and design of the new precinct.

The redevelopment will include:

  • 75 new one and two bedroom public housing units for seniors and people living with disabilities
  • construction of a new 24 hour police station
  • a linear public open space link creating a direct connection between Nightcliff Village and the Nightcliff Shopping Centre.

The relocation of the Nightcliff Police Station to a position of high visibility and proximity will assist police in keeping the community safe. Additionally, the redevelopment will reinvigorate the area by providing spaces for expanded community services, enhancing existing streetscapes and improving pedestrian experience.

Demolition works are anticipated to commence in May 2019 with 240 construction jobs supported over the life of the precinct redevelopment.
