Compulsory safety recall - Takata airbags

Published

In February 2018, the Australian Government announced a compulsory recall of vehicles with defective Takata airbags. These airbags can misdeploy causing death or serious injury.

The recall timetable is based on risk factors including age of the airbag and exposure to heat and humidity.

The highest risk ‘alpha’ airbags must be replaced immediately.

If you receive a letter from your vehicle’s manufacturer or retailer asking you to have your airbag replaced, book your free replacement as soon as possible.

You must also check whether your vehicle is affected through the IsMyAirbagSafe website.

Read more about the recall on the fact sheet PDF (576.2 KB).
