Boosting our economy: education works package

The Northern Territory Government has committed $58.5 million to the Department of Education 2015-16 capital works program and $10 million to the non-government school sector.

This investment is for capital and minor works on facilities across a number of government and non-government schools.

The package will create economic benefits to Northern Territory businesses through projects that will stimulate direct and indirect job creation and provide substantial pipelines of work for the local community and the construction sector.

The majority of the projects have been identified by the government school principals with support of their school council chairs as current priorities for their schools. Non-government schools have are keen to proceed with projects when funding is provided.

The government school works included in the Boosting Our Economy: Education Works package will be programmed on the 2015-16 capital works program to enable design, tendering and construction activity to go out to market in March and April 2016, with expenditure to flow through to 2016-17.

The capital component for non-government schools requires them to commence immediately, and complete works in the same timeframe as government schools.
